Our spelling unit for the week of Jan. 29 - Feb 2 is unit
20. The words are: hear, here, new , knew, its, it's, our, hour, there, their, they're, eye, I, seen , and scene.
Next week (Feb. 5 - 9) we will study Unit 21 Compound Words. The words for this week are: airplane, inside, grandmother, sometimes, himself, nothing, birthday, herself, outside, grandfather, baseball, something, someone, cannot, suitcase, and everybody.
In math, we will finish up plane and solid figures. You might want to ask your child to find examples of these shapes: sphere, cylinder, cone, cube, rectangular prism, and square pyramid as a review. We have learned to count the faces, edges and corners of these shapes. Next week, we will move on to identifying congruent figures, line segments and angles and moving solid figures (sliding, flipping and turning). Doesn't all this sound like the geometry you did in middle school?
We are working hard on the segments in reading and math where we need the most help to get prepared for TAAS. I hope you are working with your child on the areas that need help as evidenced by the practice TAAS just sent home.
Please encourage your child to read nightly. They are reading AR books and taking tests regularly. Most of the children are doing a great job. I will send an printout for each child soon.
