Welcome! Many of you have already met me but for those of you who are new to the Banbury 'family' I will give a brief summary of my professional background. Since joining the profession in the 1970s, I've taught in 5 countries on 4 continents which I guess makes me all the more qualified for life in the Social Studies department! Living in such diverse places as Scotland, The Netherlands, Australia, The Sultanate of Oman and of course Canada has taught me that the world really is a global village and that travel is the greatest educator of all. It has also taught me that young people are essentially the same irrespective of where you meet them. It is the positive qualities that they bring with them into the classroom that has kept me there for almost 30 years. I have now been teaching Social Studies and Psychology at Banbury for 4 years. Currently, 9 different Social courses are taught in the grade 7 - 12 range. Once students reach the Grade 10 level, choices have to be made. Social 10 - 20 - 30 are the academic courses preparing students for university entrance. Otherwise, Social 13 - 23 - 33 can be taken. Social 30/33 Diploma Exam. dates: Students wishing to do the diploma in June: The written response exam. will be administered on Wednesday, June 9, 2004 from 9:00 - 11:00am. The multiple choice paper will be administered on Wednesday June 23 from 9:00 - 11:00am. *All school related work must be given to me at least a week before so that school awarded marks can be sent to Alberta Education. This also has the advantage of giving us time to work together to best prepare you for the diploma exam itself. It is a real confidence builder to have completed some past examinations before the big day. Reports will go out on March, 15th. All work to be included in your report must be given to your teachers by Friday, 27th February. If you need extra time to complete an assignment or to do a test, speak to me and I'll see what I can do. The responsibility is yours to make these arrangements. Students in are grades should have completed at least half of their couse by now. If you have not, it's going to be a very busy summer term. If you need help to get organized, speak to me soon!
