Bonjour tout le monde ! Bonne Année ! Pas d'anglais !

***** Edline update updated! *****

If you see two asterisks in any column on Edline, this symbol refers to incomplete work that has been excused -- for a short time -- due to extenuating circumstances, absence or otherwise. It does not affect the grade in any way. “**” is not a “zero” or a “100;” it is simply “pending.” On the other hand, “0” indicates no credit, like a homework assignment never brought to class. I will still accept late work on Monday, and it is to your advantage to get partial credit rather than no credit at all.

Due to my absence this week, I have not reviewed grades individually with students for extra credit “banking.” I would like to ask all students to hand in their completed extra credit envelopes or cards either to me in 7C -- there are manila envelopes on the board labeled by class -- or through the Office to my mailbox by Wednesday, April 30. I will apply the points where ever they will help the most, and I students return unused extra credit.

As we reach the end of the marking period, there are grades posted on Edline that I have not yet handed back to students. While this is not common practice, this will allow the opportunity to exchange extra credit points on all completed work.

As of this semester, please refer to the "View calendar" link in the upper left for daily homerwork assignments. I will continue to post any details on this page as well for when Les DEVOIRS on the white board in class include "Quia!"

This Thursday, March 24, our 8th grade French class will take the National French Exam. Last year, about 3,000 students in the Commonwealth's public and private schools participated in this annual Concours sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French as well as 101,487 students nationwide.

Our eighth graders in this year’s Concours will take the Level I exam. This exam is a multiple choice test of 70 items covering listening comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar in context, as well as reading comprehension, on a level equivalent to that of a high school French I curriculum. We are blessed at Saint Bridget's to have two years to study the content of this high school class, so we should all be look forward to this opportunity to shine.

Prior to the test, we have practiced sample exams from years past and become familiar with the test formatting. The Grand Concours tests are developed annually by the American Association of Teachers of French as a motivational, extracurricular activity contest for students of French. The Grand Concours is on the list of approved tests published by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), http://www.principals.org.

I hope you all know how enthusiastic I am about this endeavor. It is but the first of many similar written examinations that they will face in the future, and the experience alone of participating gives and shows merit.

There is no failure nor are there any negative consequences to the test.

There are prizes for those earning National and local Chapter recognition as well as certificates for those who score in the top 50% and the top 20%. Students whose results represent the the top scores nationally are considered Lauréats Nationaux and as such receive a certificate and a prestigious National award.

Several students have asked if they need to study, and the answer is no. However, a good night's rest, a sound breakfast, and of course the typical sing-along to French top 40 on the way to school are all good ideas in preparation for the test. After all, "French is Fun."

Please look for information about Thursday's schedule coming soon via email and the Quia page.

Please pay special attention to DEVOIRS marked "DEVOIRS DUS," as that indicates the due date of an assignment you have had several days to complete.

Please bring your IMAGES textbooks to class, and we will keep them on a shelf. Very rarely will we have homework from IMAGES, but we are about to use it a lot more in class.

Again, details of some homework assignments will be posted at the top of this page and at the upper left "calender" link. When I write "QUIA!" next to DEVOIRS, you must check this page for directions.

Here is a file for a table of contents for your homework. Merci bien aux élèves qui me l'ont donné comme suggestion.
******Index de Devoirs******

This is an optional and easy way to keep your binder organized. I recommend printing it and keeping it in the front of your notebook. You could write page numbers and exercise numbers on this sheet, and then in your assignment pad you could simply write "Devoirs."
