A Note to Parents: The best and quickest way to reach me is by e-mail if you have any questions or concerns.  I will answer e-mails back within 24 hours (most before that), unless I am absent from school or on a scheduled holiday break.  If you try to reach me by phone, it is unlikely that I will be able to return your phone call until the next school day.  Also, I would like all parents to send me an e-mail from your account letting me know that you have read, signed, and understood the expectations of college prep biology.

Homework/Classwork: 10%

Homework:
You will have homework almost EVERY night, including weekends.  The only time you will not have homework is the night after taking a test or over a holiday break

Late Work Policy:
• Homework: If you do not turn in your homework on time, it WILL NOT be accepted late
• Labs: For lab write-ups or analysis, the deduction is ten percent points off a day for every day it is late.  This includes the block day we do not have class.
• Projects: For projects, the deduction it is twenty percent points.  This includes the block day we do not have class.

Test Retakes/Remediation:
You may retake a test and earn a grade up to a 70% if the following prerequisites are met:
• Do ALL of your homework
• A study guide has been completed.
• Come to at least two extended study sessions or review sessions before or after school (by appointment only)
• Go over your old test (with or without Mrs. Whitfield) and make test corrections to submit to Mrs. Whitfield
• The test is re-taken within one week of the original test date.

Extra Help:
Extra help is available during extended study.  You just need to ask me if you can come, and I will be happy to write you a pass.  Help is also available before and after school, by appointment only.  Please feel free to make an appointment! 

Absent From School:
When you are absent, you are responsible for finding out on the day you come back what you missed and for making arrangements for making up labs, tests, etc.  If you had work to turn in on the day(s) you missed, I will expect that you have that work with you when you return.  It is also your responsibility to get the notes that you missed from a classmate.

Class Rules:
1. Be in your seat and ready to start BEFORE the tardy bell rings.
2. Respect the attitudes, property, and opinions of others.
3. Bring all supplies to class unless otherwise notified.  You must always have your, laptop (with charger), and notebook with you at all times.
4. The teacher dismisses the class, not the bell.
5. You may have water bottles in this classroom.  You may not bring in soda, juice, or food.
6. Cell phones should be invisible in the classroom.  If I see them, I will take them for 24 hours.
7. Laptops are only to be used for classroom assignments.  I will expect you to stay on task and only use the appropriate program(s) and/or website(s) that I tell you to use.

Discipline Plan:

1. Teacher-student conference about misconduct
2. Teacher-parent phone conference
3. Teacher-parent-student conference
4. Office Referral
5. Teacher-parent-student-administrator conference

***Three circumstances which will send you immediately to step 4:
• Extreme disrespect
• Profanity
• Fighting

The following should be completed by the end of the first week of school:

• Return signed teacher expectations sheet
• Return signed safety contract
• Pay $5 science fee on fee night
• Parents send an e-mail from their account to Mrs. Whitfield indicating that they have read, signed, and understood the expectations of Biology 1 or 2
• Bring in class item (listed in the supplies section)
