Oct. 15 - 19, 2007
In Reading we are finishing up Unit 1. We will take the end of the unit test on Tues. & Wed. We will start Unit 2 on Thurs. with the story: Fly Traps! Plants That Bite Back, this is a narrative nonfiction piece of writing.
Words we will be working on are: collect, hinge, insects, pitcher, plants, & trap. Your child should be able to read these words and tell you what they mean by using them in a sentence.
We are starting: Words Their Way this week in Spelling. We will have a Spelling test this week. (Words Their Way is an individualized word study program that evaluates and addresses phonics, vocabulary, and spelling instruction.) Homework in Spelling this week is to complete at least 3 activities on the Tic Tac Toe. This is due on Friday.
In Writing we are continuing to review the subject & predicate parts of a sentence. We also are identifying complete and incomplete sentences, as well as sentence fragments. We will begin a new writing piece at the end of the week. We will be working on adding details to a detail.
In Science we will be testing the Matter unit this Friday. Be sure to review your Study Guide; it refers you to pages in your Science book to look over. (Section F - Matter pages) Also, review activities in the Matter Folder. The concept map in their folder includes everything they should know from this unit.
Words to know: matter, property, volume, mass, solid, liquid, gas, physical change, texture, luster, particles, gravity, evaporation, condensation, definite, thermometer, balance scale, graduated cylinder, degrees Celsius & Fahrenheit, liter, milliliters, inches, & centimeters

Also on Wed. night we will have our annual Literacy Night with fun reading activities for the children.
Oct. 31 - Fall Party (2:00 - 2:50) All are welcome to join us.
Nov. 2 - End of first grading period
Nov. 5 & 6 - Staff & conference days - no school for the children
Nov. 13 - Report cards will be issued
Nov. 21 - Adjusted dismissal (8:30 - 12:30)
Nov. 22 - 23 Thanksgiving Holiday
