Latin Paleography

Welcome to the page of links!

The first one is a link to the Latin will we're working on together in class.  It's followed by two links to sites with information about the abbreviations used in Latin documents (the first one is printed out and included in your first packet).

Everything you work on from now until Tuesday will be in preparation for our visit to MARBL.  Your second packet includes some background information about the documents and types of documents you'll be seeing, along with a handwriting sample and extracts from two of the manuscripts we'll be paying special attention to (a Book of Hours and a large fourteenth-century Bible).  You also have information pertaining to the other two "featured" manuscripts: a record of proceedings in a manorial court and a large scroll with the supposed lineage of Henry VI.  Although we won't be spending too much time on the court roll, the packet includes the transcript of a similar kind of document.

The last of the links on this page relate to the Book of Hours and the genealogical scroll.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

See you Tuesday in MARBL,
Kate
