May News


The Safeguard the Children Self-Protection Program will occur in kindergarten the week of May 25th.

May Procession is Thursday May 14th at 10:30.  All flowers/greenery should be turned into the auditorium before school on the 14th.  Students should bring a rosary to school with them on Thursday the 14th.  NO FREE DRESS COUPONS!

Tuesday, May 19th: Country Western Day- students may wear country western accessories such as plaid shirts, jeans, overalls, bandannas, etc.  Students may NOT wear cowboy boots or any other shoes.  They may only wear tennis shoes. 

Costumes for "How Does Your Garden Grow?" need to be turned into the classroom.  Please send a note if you have any questions. 

May 21st-9:00 am Kinder Play "How Does Your Garden Grow?" Performance will be held in the small auditorium

LANGUAGE ARTS
*Phonemic Awareness : r-controlled a /ar/ (car); long vowel /o/ (rose, boat); /th/ (thumb); /ow/ (now), /gr/ (grow), /cr/ (crib), /st/ (stop), long vowel /u/ (music, flute)
*Spelling : know the following spelling rules: (1) two vowel rule - "When two vowels go a walkin' the first one does the talkin'" (the second vowel is silent) Example: bOat, fOam. (2) Silent e rule - The silent e at the end of a word says the vowel's name. Example: cAke, sAve
*High Frequency Words: look, our, for, want, into, well, run, in, away, way, toy, find, now, with, did, new, eat, where, ate, came, say
Keep practicing these words!!
*Writing- Create a descriptive story about a robot, naming what he/she is made out of, describing any special talent, naming the robot. 

MATH
*Introducing Addition-identifying a whole number as a combination of two parts, combine two groups to make a larger group, draw a picture to solve a problem, use the plus sign in addition, identify the equal sign and solve number sentences to 6, write and solve horizontal addition sentences, write and solve vertical addition problems, and add money to 6 cents



REMINDERS...


REPORT CARDS need to be signed and returned to school this week!  If you cannot ind your child's report card, please pay a dollar at the office so they can send us a new one. 

HOMEWORK is assigned every Tuesday & Thursday. It is due back the following school day in the homework folder.

FAMILY ENVELOPES are distributed by the school office every Monday. It is due back the following day. Only the oldest child from each family receives an envelope.

LIBRARY BOOKS are checked out every Wednesday. They are due back the following week on WEDNESDAY.
