Week of Oct 7-11

For Monday, Oct. 7th:  Read McKay, 454-465.  Keep the following in mind as you take notes:
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

1. Describe the problems within the Church raised by critics in the fourteenth, fifteenth, and early sixteenth centuries.
2. Discuss the attempts at Church reform by both individuals and groups in the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries;  you should be able to clearly describe the various ideas that these reformers put forth.
3. Describe the background of Martin Luther leading to his emergence as originator and leader of the Protestant Reformation.
4. Discuss the causes for the issuing of Luther’s Ninety-Five Theses and the basic ideas expressed in that document.

For Wednesday, Oct. 9:  Read McKay, 466-473.

For Thursday, Oct. 10:  Gather 3 primary sources relating to the political consequences of the Reformation.  See "Useful Links" below for link to Fordham (NYC) primary source link.

For Wednesday, Oct. 16:  Edit primary sources chosen by classmates and prepare a DBQ question for class discussion.  Read McKay, 473-to the end of the chapter.

For Thursday, Oct. 17:  Take ACE practice test in preparation for in-class non-graded, collaborative multiple-choice test.

For Friday, Oct. 18:  In-class DBQ essay.



Week of Sept. 30-Oct. 4

For Wednesday, Oct. 2 Read 440-449 (through the end of the chapter);  Read also 452-453 "An Age of Gold" written by Desiderius Erasmus.  Wednesday we will spend some time on the three primary sources you have read for this chapter:  Machiavelli's The Prince, More's Utopia, and this piece by Erasmus.
