Hello and Welcome to the 8th Grade!

My name is Miss Popa and I will be the 8A homeroom teacher for this school year. 8th grade students will see me throughout the school day for literature and religion. I also teach one 8th grade Algebra course as well as a 7th grade Course 2 math class.

This website will be updated regularly, giving you information on upcoming projects, assignments, and tests. I will also post any helpful links and attach any files that will assist you in staying in touch outside of school.

February 13th - February 17th Weekly Schedule

Quote of the week:

“God loves each of us as if there were only one of us.”

-St. Augustine-

Algebra

Chapter 6 is coming to a close. On Monday and Tuesday, we will spend some quality time in class reviewing and preparing for Wednesday's Chapter Test. We will then get a sneak peek of Chapter 7 on Thursday, looking at slope.

Course 2

Chapter 5 wrapped up nicely last week. In regards to the Chapter Test, please remember that you are more than welcome to make corrections and schedule a retake if you wish to do so. Last Thursday, we began extending our studies on integers to solving one step equations. We will continue to practice solving these equations, applying our knowledge of adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers. The key is balance and knowing that our goal is to "make the sentence true". Come in ready to practice and ask questions!

Religion

Our unit on the Sacraments came to a close last week. We will begin our new unit on the history of the Catholic Church this week. How much do you know about our Church's beginning? Come ready to share your own "beginning" and compare it to that of the Church. Also, plan for a special something on Tuesday for you and your buddies!

Literature

It's hard to believe that we are we approaching our third week of Book Clubs. You will quickly be approaching the halfway point of your book. Keep up the great work, focusing on the reading schedule and due dates. Remember, Mondays and Wednesdays are reading days and Tuesdays and Thursdays are discussion days. This week, we will focus on finishing up those assessment questions as well as looking at characters and setting.

Note: It is your responsibility to bring your book (in its bag!) and file to class everyday. This unit does require a lot of work and responsibility on your part, but it is great practice and training for high school!
