One of the most exciting things about being able to communicate in another language is the access it provides as one travels around the world. Of course, one would expect that by speaking GERMAN, one could communicate with GERMANS in GERMANY-- but that is just the beginning! Why do you think your travel experience might be a better one because of your ability to speak German? What are some of the most important kinds of expressions might you need to know? Let's go traveling to some of the many GERMAN-speaking travel destinations in the world!
You are about to embark on an adventure! As you research your German-speaking travel destination, think about what it would be like to actually visit these places, meet the people, experience local customs, learn about history, discover modern trends, sample new foods, listen to new music, view beautiful works of art and awe-inspiring scenery...
LET'S GO!
You and your partner will present information about your travel destination in interesting ways: first, make a GOOGLE SLIDESHOW then, add in a Google Earth or Google Maps slide to show us WHERE you are going. You might want to bring us a sample of food that's usually eaten where you are going and/or consider playing some music that represents your travel destination. These are just suggestions; think about creative ways to make your travel destination come alive for your audience.
USE THIS CHECK-LIST TO MAKE SURE THAT IN YOUR PRESENTATION, YOU TELL AND SHOW US INFORMATION ABOUT:
Your destination and its Location
Geographic details (e.g. mountains, rivers, lakes, etc.)
Capital and/or major cities
What to see (famous sites/scenery/etc.) Sight-seeing stops
What do do (consider different times of the year/holidays, etc)
What weather to expect
What to eat - Once you decide on a destination, please see Frau Rogers for at least one food item to research that is typical of your travel destination; be able to describe the food item and explain its significance to the location
What are some important WORDS and PHRASES to know when traveling to a German-speaking location? How would your travel experience be enhanced if you were to speak German along the way?
And finally, if you were to purchase a souvenir, what would it be and why?
