Sixth Grade TAKS Reading
Welcome!! Sixth Graders will be reviewing and practicing the Dolch Sight Words and basic vocabulary as they practice the necessary reading skills for TAKS success! (You may get a copy of these lists from my Fifth Grade Class page)

Your child should be reading at least 15 minutes every night!!

Sixth graders are given a practice reading page every Monday which is due on or before Friday of the same week!!! This homework should be read aloud to an adult and signed by both the student and the adult reading partner. This may seem unusual since most people consider reading aloud a practice for much younger students, but research has proven that this continued practice of oral reading can improve both fluency (the ease with which a person reads) and comprehension (the ability to understand what is being read) in readers. Both of these skills are important to achieving success in school and in educational testing!!
