Hallo! Wie geht’s? Mir geht’s prima! Alles Gute zum Erntedankfest! Was machst du zum Erntedankfest? Wir essen bei meiner Tante. Sie wohnt in Kalifornien. Mein Vater, meine Mutter, meine Schwester, mein Grossvater und ich besuchen meine Tante.
Wir essen viel. Ich esse am liebsten Kartoffeln. Wir haben gebackene Kartoffeln und Kartoffelpüree. Sie schmecken sehr gut. Ich esse sie am liebsten mit Butter und Salz. Meine Familie isst gern Truthahn aber ich nicht. Ich bin Vegetarierin. Ich esse auch einen grünen Salat aber er schmeckt nicht. Die Sosse ist zu scharf. Das Brot ist gut und der Preiselbeersaft ist sagenhaft. Zum Nachtisch essen wir Kürbistorte und Schokoladenkuchen. Der Kuchen schmeckt mir gut. Er ist süss und nicht zu trocken.
Am Samstag gehen wir ins Kino. Wir sehen den Film, “Haunted Mansion.” Dieser Film ist sehr lustig. Eddie Murphy spielt sehr gut. Ich mag Komödien und Horrorfilme. Dieser Film ist Komödie mit Horror. Wir spielen auch Basketball und am Abend spielen wir das Brettspiel, “Clue.” Das macht Spass. Meine Schwester gewinnt.
Meine Tante heisst Franziska. Sie ist sehr gross und hat braune und graue Haare. Sie ist Sekretärin. Sie ist nett und sehr freundlich. Sie hat eine Katze. Mein Vater heisst Wendell. Er hat dunkelbraune Haare und blaue Augen. Er hat auch eine Brille. Er findet Sachkunde sehr interessant. Er ist Ingenieur. Meine Mutter heisst Lora. Sie hat blonde Haare und blaue Augen. Sie ist sehr schüchtern. Sie ist Bibliothekarin. Meine Schwester ist 18 Jahre alt und sie heisst Karin. Sie hat blonde Haare und blaue Augen. Sie lernt oft und sie spricht sehr leise. Sie mag Schule. ( Ich nicht!!) Mein Grossvater heisst Albert. Er ist 83 Jahre alt. Er hat weisse Haare und blaue Augen. Er hat auch eine Brille. Er ist sehr intelligent und er geht gern spazieren. Er findet Politik interessant. Er ist auch sehr witzig.
Wir essen im Esszimmer. Wir haben zwei Tische. Die Wände sind weiss, der Schrank ist alt und dunkelbraun, die Tische sind braun und der Teppich ist dunkelrot. Die Möbel sind alt und nicht modern. Die Stühle sind unbequem und sehr alt. Ein Stuhl ist kaputt. Die Lampe ist schön. Wir hören Musik und die Stereoanlage ist auch sehr sehr alt.
Was machst du am Wochenende? Was isst du am liebsten? Was trinkst du gern? Gehst du oft ins Kino? Hast du Geschwister? Ich muss jetzt gehen. Viel Spaß!!

Thanksgiving, food, family, furniture, and fun project
You will write about your holiday (in German!!!!) Please type.
If you cannot type it, please print neatly and clearly.
Follow the directions below. Use the directions below as a checklist. If you would like to use my sample as a model, simply changing information to fit yours, please do. Make sure that you only write in German.
RULE # 1: DO NOT RELY ON MACHINE/COMPUTER TRANSLATORS, DICTIONARIES, OR FRIENDS/RELATIVES WHO SPEAK GERMAN. USE ONLY THE GERMAN YOU KNOW FROM YOUR NOTES, TEXTBOOK, OR OTHER CLASS SOURCES.
IFYOU NEED A PARTICULAR TERM, SUBMIT IT TO ME IN WRITING, AND I WILL RETURN IT TO YOU IN THE NEXT CLASS. ALLOW TIME FOR THIS!!

1. Address this as you would a letter. ( Use your penpal’s name)

2. You must open the paragraph with telling where you are eating, and with whom you are eating. (Example: Ich besuche meine Grossmutter, OR: Meine Kusine besucht mich OR Wir essen bei uns zu Hause OR Wir essen bei meinen Grosseltern.
(I visit my grandmother OR My cousin visits me OR We are eating at our house OR We are eating at my grandparents' house.) NOTE: the preposition "bei" is the same as saying ; "at the home of..."
Bei mir = at my house
You may wish to open with good wishes for Thanksgiving. “Alles Gute zum
Erntedankfest!” = All the best on Thanksgiving. (Ernte = harvest dank= thank fest= party)
Question: Where do we find all this vocabulary? In your book-- Chapter 3- PAGE 87!!!!!!! Also—see your packet.
3. Your second paragraph includes what you are eating, and what you think about each food. Describe it and tell about it. Use additional packet vocab for this. Give a sentence about a food, describe it and tell whether or not you like it. Example:
Wir essen Truthahn. Er schmeckt nur so lala. Er ist zu trocken.
(We eat turkey. It only tastes so-so. It is too dry.) Use packet AND pages 70-72 in book. Also PAGE 87!!!!!!
4. Your third paragraph tells about your leisure activities with your friends or family during the holiday. Example: Wir gehen ins Kino. Wir sehen den Film, "Haunted Mansion." Tell if it is good/fun, or not and why.
Example: Ich finde diesen Film sehr lustig. Eddie
Murphy ist wunderbar. (We go to the movies. We see the movie, “Haunted Mansion.” I find this movie very funny. Eddie Murphy is wonderful.)
Use packet and page 63 about activities.
5. Your fourth paragraph tells us about the people you visit with over the holiday. You tell us what they look like and what their personalities are like.
Minimum of two sentences per person are required. You must say that something about looks AND something about personality. You may not say the same thing over and over about each person.
FAQ: What if I visit with 16 relatives? Do I have to write about all 16?
ANSWER: NO! Choose four! Make it interesting.
Example: Meine Schwester heisst Karin. Sie ist 18 Jahre alt. Sie ist gross und hat blonde Haare und blaue Augen. Sie ist humorlos. Sie lernt immer.
( My sister’s name is Karin. She is tall and has blond hair and blue eyes. She has no sense of humor. She studies all the time.)

6. Your fifth paragraph describes the room you eat in, or visit in. Include furniture,
colors, size, and how you like the things there. Is it nice? Comfortable? Or old and ugly?
Use p. 74-76 in your text AND PAGE 87!!!!!

7. Your sixth paragraph wishes the 'friend" well, and inquires as to what he/she did over
the holiday. What activities he/she likes, and why. Finish with a good bye.
Ask questions with the following question words:
Was, Wo/Wohin, Wie, Wer/Wen (who/whom) and more.
8. You must also include a picture, 8 1/2 X 11, with all the members of your holiday visit with you. You may use:
a. clipart
b. photos
c. magazine pictures to represent each person
d. a drawing (make it good and colorful)
e. Any combination of the above.
