Welcome to Algebra 2.
I am very excited to be teaching Algebra 2 this year. The textbook I have chosen incorporates technology throughout the units. We will be using the Pearson Algebra 2 website and online textbook and resources, Geometer's Sketchpad, the TI 84 - Plus calculator, iPad, and other technology material.
This site contains activities that will help you review skills from Algebra 1 and practice new skills. I am also including links to your online textbook, as well as other interesting information.
Class Guidelines
Eighth Grade Algebra 2 -- Mrs. Allen
2nd Period
1. The Canterbury Middle School Social Contract and Honor Code apply to this class.
2. Be on time and prepared for class. Always bring your notebook, paper, calculator, agenda, sharpened pencils (no pens), expo marker, and homework to class with you. Textbooks will be used in class, but can be accessed online at home. Book bags may not be brought to class.
3. All students will be required to keep a notebook in the math binder. All class notes, examples, worksheets, homework, quizzes, etc. will be kept in order in this notebook. A zippered pencil pouch for your binder is recommended to hold your calculator and cord, pencils and expo marker. That way you will always have the tools you need with you.
4. Announced and/or unannounced quizzes may be given on any day of the week. Quizzes and projects will make up 40% of the total grade for the marking period. When a grade below 75% is earned on any quiz, the student will have the opportunity to re-take a quiz on the same material within a week’s time and receive up to 75%.
5. Homework is a necessary part of any math class. It will be assigned most evenings and will be due at the beginning of the following class, unless otherwise stated. All assignments must be written in your agenda and will also be available online. Homework will be graded on completion, thoroughness, and effort. I will be using a 10-point scale for homework.
10 = complete (all work shown) 5 = 1/2 complete or no work shown 0 = No homework
Late homework will receive no credit, except in the case of absence, but all homework must be included in the notebook. Because math homework is necessary to practice skills, any student who has not completed the assignment due that day will be required to complete that assignment during lunch in my room. The lowest homework grade will be dropped each trimester. Homework will make up 10% of the total grade.
6. Tests will be announced at least 3 days in advance and posted on the online Quia calendar. Make-up tests will be given as soon as possible after an absence. Tests will comprise 50% of the total grade. Graded tests will be sent home for a parent signature and returned for a homework grade the next class period.
7. All make-up work is the responsibility of the student. You must check the Quia calendar and with me to find out what you missed.
8. Extra help is available every morning before school, lunchtimes, and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:10 to 3:45. Please take advantage of these help sessions.
9. No food or gum is allowed in this class. Water bottles are acceptable.
