Your first vocabulary quiz is coming up... Are you ready?
Just the fact that you are visiting this web site is a good sign.  It tells me that you care about your work and that you want to be well prepared.  Good for you!

Play the games, use your flashcards, and write definign sentences for your words.  All of these activities will help you study.

Good luck.

May the fire burn brightly.

A Note to Parents:

This website can also be a wonderful resource for you.  Like the students, you can use it to remain current with what we are doing in class.  You can help your child study for tests by working through the games and activities with them.  In addition, you can always email me with question, comments, or concerns.

As I have mentioned above, vocabulary study is an important part of class.  We are implementing a new vocabulary program for the seventh grade, entitled Vocabulary Workshop.  This program uses a "pure vocabulary" approach as opposed to a literature based approach. We will be studying words themselves: their meanings, ranges of application, and relationships with other words.  The vocabulary consists of words students will encounter frequently both in and out of the classroom.  In addition, the questions and activities in the workbook are designed to help students achieve higher level proficiecy on standardized tests (particularly the SAT I).  This program is challenging and I am excited to see the students succeed.

In addition, I want to note that I will often assign freereading for homework.  That is, I will ask the students to read a book of thier choice for a certain length of time (20-45 minutes).  Your child will have a log and will ask you, or another adult, to sign in order to verify that s/he has spent time reading.  Reseach supports this: if a child is reading below grade level, s/he needs to read a minumum of 90 minutes a day to come up to grade level.  A child reading at grade level need to read at least 20 minutes a day to maintain his/her reading level. If you have not seen your child's freereading log for a sustained period of time, please call or email me to check.

Thank you in advance for your help.  We are partners in this--

Sincerely,

Megan Champagne
