Seventh Period - Ms. Lashinsky
Syllabus -- First Nine Weeks

Course Description: Students will learn how to formulate specific purpose statements, how to analyze and adapt to audiences, how to organize ideas and construct outlines, how to assess evidence and reasoning, and how to use language effectively while demonstrating these skills for classroom needs and experiences. The classroom will serve as a training ground where students develop skills that will serve them throughout life.

What you will need: Students need to bring a loose-leaf binder to each class. The binder will contain class notes, research notes, draft copies and final copies of speeches, and evaluations. Students will also need note cards. Textbooks will remain in the classroom, but students may check out a textbook at any time.

Evaluation: Your grade will be based on the following percentages:

Speeches: 60% Quizzes: 20% Notebook and file: 10% Daily Grade*: 10%

*The daily grade will be based on class activities, time on task when preparing speeches (often in the library), and ability to listen respectively to others as they give their speeches.
