Thursday, September 4 (Day One)
Friday, Sept. 5 (Day Two)
Block A this morning was a bit of confusion. A Block students were transferred to other classes (some to other English teachers) in order to make room for another Advanced English class. I will be teaching Advanced English during A Block. Some students were transferred from our overcrowded Advanced English class (Block F) and some wered transferred to my A Block from Ms. Duke's overcrowded Advanced English class. We had to take some time to go over the same rules and organizational issues we went over with other students (for the benefit of the new folks). I can't wait until Monday so that we can really get rolling with these students!
Blocks C and D--- Today these students started working in their notebooks. They did several quickwrites and know what to do with those tonight to extend what we did in class today. We also copied a quote by Joan Aiken, and wrote an essay..... A memory of first grade. Essays will be kept in class in a folder to be used for future writing lessons.
Homework due on Monday, Sept. 8 - Blocks A, C, D
Homework due on Tuesday Sept. 9 - Blocks E and F----
Add to your notebooks. Look at the quickwrite topics we used in class. What could you do to add to those topics? We talked about this in class and started the assignment there. Now you will have even more resources at home. I can't wait to see what you do with yours!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Tuesday, Sept. 2 (Blocks A, C, and D)- Day 1
Wednesday, Sept. 3 (Blocks E and F) - Day 2
Tuesday and Wednesday--- these classes received an overview of the year ahead. We talked about vocabulary, spelling, writer's notebooks, etc. We established "study buddies"--- someone to call when you forgot what to do. We made a trip to the front of the building in A and C blocks to check bus numbers. We discussed class rules and what to do if you forget something (like WHERE IS THE BATHROOM? or HELP! I CAN'T REMEMBER MY LOCKER COMBINATION!) There is plenty of help---so don't panic. We will help you!
Homework--due on Thursday (Day 1) and Friday
(Day 2)
Decorate your writer's notebook (any kind of notebook---although composition notebooks were on the supply list) Also give your notebook an alliterative name. (Ex: Paulette's Ponderings, Nancy's Notes, etc.)
Extra Credit: Get your parents to write a note to me saying that they have seen our class web site. (I'd love to have your thoughts on it--- I'm open to suggestions---Many features will be added later--- I want your ideas!)
Summer Reading assignments should be turned in this week.
Parents--- please take a look at the Class Syllabus and the letter to parents.
