Child Development is a one-semester (1/2 credit) course designed to focus on knowledge and skills related to development, care, guidance, and protection of children.  Instruction addresses the principals and procedures for promoting the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of young children, including those with special needs.  Other topics include child nutrition, public policies affecting children, characteristics of quality child care, career options related to the care and education of children, and the management of multiple family, community, and individual roles.  The textbook used is THE DEVELOPING CHILD by Helen Brisbane.

TUTORIALS:  Daily before school.  Specific times are posted on the bulletin board.

GRADING:  Daily grades will count 40% and will include daily assignments, class participation, quizzes, and short-term projects. 

Major grades will count 60% and will include tests, reports, and long-term projects.

A CAREER CONNECTION project will be assigned early in the first six weeks and will be due the last six weeks.  This will be a major grade.  Details will be given in class.

MAKEUP WORK: You will be responsible for obtaining assignments missed due to absences. 

CLASSROOM SUPPLIES:  CLASSROOM SUPPLIES:  Each student  is asked to bring one roll of paper towels and one pop-up container of Clorex-type disinfecting wipes. These supplies will allow more of our budget to be used for food  items and not paper goods.
