Management is a one semester (½ credit) Family and Consumer Science course that will be very helpful to your future regardless of career choices. The course includes managing decisions, resources, careers, money, food, clothing, housing, transportation, and organizational skills. We will be using the textbook, GOALS FOR LIVING by Goodheart-Willcox. The following outline describes what will be covered this semester: Weeks 1-6 Decision-making Values, goals and standards Managing resources Managing technology Understanding Development Relationships Communication Family Living Weeks 7-12 Managing Health and Wellness Managing Finances Basic Banking Credit Use Planning for Financial Security Weeks 13-18 Consumer Management Meal Management Clothing Management Housing Management Career Planning TUTORIALS: Daily before school. Specific times are posted on the bulletin board. Other times may be arranged as needed. GRADING: Daily grades will count 40% and will include daily assignments, class participation, quizzes, and short-term projects. Major grades will count 60% and will include tests, reports, and long-term projects. A CAREER CONNECTION project will be assigned. This will be a major grade. The project will be related to Identity Theft. Details will be given in class. MAKEUP WORK: You will be responsible for obtaining missed assignments from absences. CLASSROOM SUPPLIES: Each student is asked to bring one roll of paper towels and one pop-up container of Clorex-type disinfecting wipes. These supplies will allow more of our budget to be used for food items and not paper goods.
