Here are some of the peices that I have written October 12, 2001 Leah Matusow Ms. Schwabenland 7-7 13 and Older Tic, toc, tic, toc. This was the only sound I could hear, for I was in deep thought, thinking that in just a few minutes I would be 13, an age of many responsibilities. I had just gotten home from the movies where I only had to pay half price. That was all about to change for I was entering a new world in 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… Yawning long and deep, I got out of bed and stretched. It was 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and I was going out for a day of fun and entertainment. In the shower I went, singing merrily, as the warm water awakened me. I brushed my teeth, did my hair, got dressed and, running down the stairs I went, to greet my parents. The aroma in the air led me to a plate of French toast, only my favorite breakfast ever. I gulped down a big glass of orange juice and told my parents I was going out. Ding Dong! Hearing that sound I flung open the door to greet my friend, Rachel. "Bye," I yelled and just as I shut the door I could hear "Bye" and "Happy Birthday". Under all that I knew something special was going to happen tonight for they didn't even sing happy birthday to me, which was a tradition. We hopped in the car and turned the music to maximum volume. The fun had started as we sung to the music. I thought the car was shaking as we headed toward the turnpike. Our destinations might have been far but it only seemed like a minute until we jumped out of the car and… In the mail I had gotten some money from friends and family this is what I would spend. Laughing hysterically, I took out my wallet and pulled out ten dollars. Stepping to the booth to pay, the lady asked me if I had any key to enter the zoo. I said no and laid a ten-dollar bill, as crisp as crust, on the counter. The lady asked me what this was for and I told her I was paying. She chuckled and said, "Hun, kids thirteen and older are fifteen dollars and I assume you are over that age." She was as correct as getting a hundred on a test. I was thirteen, but I was still shaken up at the cost. Dumbfounded, I took out my wallet, pulled out a five and gave the lady the money. While waiting for my friend I sat down to listen to the voice inside my head. It was telling me that my fees are higher now and I have to be careful. After seeing and feeding animals galore, my friend and I hopped back in the car. We were off to our next destination which was... My School Day Briing! Uh, I've got to get up in a hurry, C'mon now, it is only 6:30. I got washed, dressed and ran down the stairs, I ate my cereal in our big comfy chairs. Before I knew it, I was out the door, Walking to school surely isn't a chore. I went to my locker and then walked into homeroom, We recited the "Pledge of Allegiance", a little too soon. I walked to English class where we continued our work, I was typing my popcorn story and the computer went berserk! My next class was math, which was a door away, We worked on problem solving which we do every day. Upstairs is where I went next, the science lab was here, We learned about life science, and I gave a little cheer. Back downstairs, its social studies time, We talked about current events and committing a crime. It was fifth period on a "B" day and Spanish had come, "Hola madre" is what I could say to my mum. On other days fifth period was chorus where we sang, The drums were so loud, you only hear the BANG. Whoa, sixth period is here, Gym or Writer's Workshop, should one be my career? "Food fight", could you tell I'm at lunch? I eat with my friends who are a great bunch. Back to my locker and upstairs to reading, On this day we did writing and I had a meeting. Quickly the day ended, but I wasn't happy! 'Cause academics are extremely important to me. The U.S.A. gives everyone a chance, To go to school, learn, and advance.
