Extra-Curriculars On the Move!

There’s lots happening “after hours” at George Lee School. Both girls and boys’ inter-school basketball, wrestling, cheerleading, and intramural basketball are running at the present time.
Girls basketball coach Mrs. McClintock has taken an instructive approach with her team, and the girls have begun to demonstrate new skills. Mr. Hodel is working with a few returning players and a new crop of boys coming up the ranks. The basketball season is well underway.
Mr. Parisien’s wrestling team has been practicing for a few weeks, and they will attend a number of wrestling tournament this season.
The cheerleaders had a successful bottle drive to purchase new uniforms and shakers. They support our inter-school basketball teams by cheering, and they will also be competing at two competitions during February. Coach Mrs. Schisler has the team’s sights set on Basketball Beat in the month of March.
Finally, intramurals run during morning recesses, as follows:
 Tuesdays – grade 1 & 2 bucketball
 Wednesdays – grade 3-5 low net basketball
 Thursdays – grade 6-8 3-on-3 basketball
Thanks to all the teachers and students who assist in leading these extra-curricular activities.

Lunch Room Milk Prices Increase

For instance, Garden Market IGA stores and the Sherwood Mall stores are running the “School is Cool” and “Partnership with Sherwood Mall” programs. When shopping, please take time to mention George Lee School as your school affiliation.

Schoolyard Revitalization
This fall the Parent Association of George Lee School has been diligently working on a comprehensive plan to up-grade our schoolyard. Headed up by committee Chairman Mr. Dave Secuur, the committee has been putting together an application for a matching grant from the City of Regina, to the tune of $10,000. The application will be submitted this week and we hope to hear a positive response.
During this week, architectural drawings of the proposed schoolyard plan are on display in the front hallway of the school. Please drop by during regular office hours to view the plans. We also invite your feedback on the proposal.
Thanks to the parents who have joined in the planning phase of this project. Work on the first part of this project is expected to begin in Spring, 2002.

Volunteer Criminal Record Checks
Thanks to the parents who submitted Criminal Record Checks last month. Regina Public Schools joins other organizations in requiring volunteers to get Criminal Record Checks done prior to working with children. The parents who already submitted their Criminal Record Check form to the Regina Police Service have been added to our growing list of parents who can join in a field trip or assist in classroom activities.
If parents had intended to submit the form and hadn’t done so to date, we invite you to do so. We are sending home a form with this newsletter. Forms are to be completed and submitted directly to the Regina Police Service. Fees for volunteers are waved so there is no cost to parent volunteer when submitting the form.

George Lee School on the Web
Last year our school went on the Internet with a new homepage and we are constantly up-dating our web-site. Teachers are constantly upgrading their own computer knowledge so they can maintain web pages for individual classrooms. If you have Internet access, why not visit the school web-site at http://lee.rbe.sk.ca/  You can also be in touch with the school via e-mail at lee@rbe.sk.ca
