4th nine weeks
Literature
Instructor:  Mrs. Westbrook

Unit:  The Novel, Bearstone, by Will Hobbs

Objectives:

1. Read and appreciate a novel
2. Become familiar with the elements of a novel
3. Use critical thinking and reading strategies to gain fuller understanding of a novel
4. Develop strategies for understanding and appreciating the language in a novel
5. Use a novel as springboard for writing imaginatively
6. Use a novel as a springboard for writing critically


I. Selection Test Grades:
1. after reading chapters 1-6
2. after reading chapters 7-11
3. after reading chapters 12 - 16
4. after reading chapters 17-22
5. over the entire novel

II. Vocabulary- students are required to learn the vocabulary for each section
III. Responding to the Selection Questions- there are four sets of questions that come before each of the tests listed above- students must answer in complete sentences using the question in the response
IV. Power Words- students are required to write each power word 5 times, definition once- quizzes are on Thursdays

Wed:  read Bearstone  (7-11), work on power words wk 1
Thurs: review for Bearstone selection test chapters 7-11 and answer responding to the selection questions from chapter 7-11, power word quiz wk 1
Fri: selection test over Bearstone chapters 7-11

First week of April - Spring Break
