Hi! Thanks for stopping by my webpage. I will be updating this webpage weekly to keep you informed with what is going on in the classroom and at school. I hope this information is helpful to you! January 28 - February 1, 2002 CLASSROOM NEWS We will continue to focus a great deal on writing these next few weeks. So far this year, we have worked on narrative writing, HOW-TO papers, and classificatory writing. This week we will be moving on to persuasive papers. In class, we will be peer editing to check for punctuation, capitalization, usage, and spelling errors. We will also continue to work on elaboration in our writing. The students will be taking the Writing TAAS on February 19, 2002. This week we will be starting a new editing activity. Each student will have a folder with editing activities in it that are similar to those that will be on the objective part of the TAAS Writing test. The students will complete activities and check their answers in class. These folders will be sent home at the end of the week for a parent signature. We are studying Unit 22 Spelling words this week. We will have the Dictation test on Thursday and the Word List test on Friday. Check back during the week for a spelling game using Unit 22 words. ****BONUS WORD HINT**** When you use this type of writing, you are giving your opinion and trying to convince the reader to feel the same way that you do. I am currently reading "War With Grandpa" by Robert Kimmel Smith aloud to the students. This book is about a young boy who has to move out of his room when his grandpa moves in with the family. The boy decides to declare war on his grandpa and fight to get his room back. The boy and his grandpa play tricks on one another, but the finally reach an agreement in the end. We will be working on some activities in class after reading sections of the book aloud. SCHOOL NEWS Keep those Box Tops rolling in! We won last semester, why not try again? The Box Tops help raise money for the PE program. The students will be dismissed early on January 29th for parent conferences for new students. Progress reports will be sent home this week. I will also be including a print out of your child's AR record. Please sign and return the sheets to school. WEBPAGE LINKS Check out the Creech Library Link at the bottom of the page!
