ONLINE DISCUSSION INFO

In general, you will be assigned two sets of chapters per week. After reading the chapters, you must post your comments on an online message board.

All posts for a given set of chapters must be made by 7:30 AM Thursday/Monday morning. I will post discussion items for the next set of chapters by 7:30 PM Thursday/Monday evening. You may begin posting for the next set of chapters at that time.

DISCUSSION DOS AND DON'TS:

DO keep in mind that this is a discussion, not a question and answer session.  In other words, DON'T just respond to Ms. Fauson's questions.  DO pose questions of your own.  DO respond to other students' questions and comments.

DO support your opinions and comments by referring to the text.

DO make enlightened, insightful comments.

DO pose interesting, open-ended questions.

DON'T read ahead.  Discussions are more fun if we're all on the same page.

DON'T spoil future chapters for other students if you do read ahead.  Make sure your posts don't give anything away.

DO proofread your posts before you send them.  It's poor netiquette to send anything with atrocious spelling, grammatical, and punctuation errors.  It's a courtesy to those joining in on discussion to do your best in this area.

DO post more than once for a reading assignment if there is something that interests you.

DON'T post anything inappropriate.  (This almost goes without saying, but if you post inappropriate items, the DJH Code of Conduct will be put into effect.)

DON'T give out info as to how to access this site to just anyone.  Parents are okay.  Students not involved in the discussion are not.  Friends are not.  Your cousin Billy from Oklahoma is not.  We want this discussion to stay in our little circle and don't want to have a bunch of useless postings from random people.

DON'T expect to earn extra credit unless you make a posting for ALL reading assignments.

DON'T expect to earn extra credit if you don't post by the deadline.

DON'T use "failure of technology" as a reason for not making your posting on time.  Have a backup plan.
