School Theme: Unity Kindergarten is the time and place for children to come together, some for the first time, to share space, materials, and ideas. We will work on learning how to be patient, share, take turns, and cooperate with others. Conflicts between students are viewed as opportunities to learn and practice important problem solving skills. June 2013 Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for a wonderful school year! I was very fortunate to have such a lovely bunch of Kindergarteners in class this year. They were such a joy to teach and I will miss them dearly :) Here are a few ideas to keep your student busy over the summer months: READING: Please continue to help your child read over the summer. Register for a Library card to check out books! Raz-Kids will be available to use during the summer. WRITING: Please encourage your child to write whenever they can! A few sentences about their daily activities or summer trips is a great place to start. Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter and end each sentence with a period! MATH SKILLS: Practice simple addition and subtraction facts. Make flash cards! Mathletics will be available to use during the summer. Sincerely, Ms. Witherspoon Stages of Development - Typically, children go through specific stages of development as they progress from non-readers to fluent readers. In leveled reading, books are written to various levels of difficulty, gradually introducing developing readers to new challenges. The stages of reading development are commonly separated as follows: Early Emergent Readers (Reading A-Z levels aa-C) Emergent Readers (Reading A-Z levels D-J) Early Fluent Readers (Reading A-Z levels K-P) Fluent Readers (Reading A-Z levels Q-Z) ** Note to parents: Please remember to check your student's progress at our web portal https://dsj.schoolone.com/ if you have a child who is in 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade.
