This Week in First Grade Jan.25, 2002 In language arts we have been working on root words with "ing" endings. We have learned how to stop a vowel from saying its name before we add "ing". We have learned to double the last consonant [as in hop, hopping] We have also learned to drop the "magic e" when adding "ing" [as in rake, raking] We are continuing to write stories from prompts and to edit them for capitals, periods and spelling. In math we are continuing to work on plus and minus facts to eleven. We have been working place value to one hundred and playing math games. Block-out and checkers are two of our favorites! In social studies/ science we have learned about Martin Luther King Jr. We are continuing to learn about our natural resources. We have read books about rocks, water and the food chain. Correction: Progress reports will go home on February 6th. martin
