Adjective Safari
Introduction
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to go on a safari and learn about an animal from a different continent? Today you are going to get the chance to go on an adjective safari to either Africa or Australia and learn about an elephant or a kangaroo. Then you will go on another safari to the Mojave Desert where you will learn about some of the different snakes in that area.
Task
While you are on your safari you should learn how adjectives are used in everyday life. Use your knowledge of the animals and their environments to write a report to your classmates describing what these animals and their environments are like.
Process
Step One: Choose a continent to explore.
1. Click on either Africa or Australia.
2. Print out the web page with your animal on it.
3. Use your highlighter to highlight all of the adjectives that you can find on your animal and its environment. (Write your name on your paper to be handed in later as part of your research!)
4. Use Microsoft Word to write a paragraph describing the animal and its environment that you researched to be read to your classmates.
Step Two: Learn about snakes in the Mojave Desert
1. Click on the link to the Mojave Desert.
2. Read about the different kind of snakes in that area.
3. Choose two different snakes from the Mojave Desert.
4. Use Microsoft word to write a paragraph about the differences in the two snakes.
5. Print your paper out and circle your adjectives.
Evaluation
Write a report using Microsoft Word about the animal and continent that you chose. You must use at least five adjectives in your report. Write a second report on the differences in the two snakes that you chose. You must use at least five adjectives in your report. Later you will read out loud to the class your reports on the continent and snakes that you chose.
Conclusion
Are all animals the same? How do you tell others about the differences in nouns? How are adjectives used in everyday life?
