MATH: Our focus is on problem solving using various strategies. This week the students will be tested on their problem solving abilities on the TAKS test.
SOCIAL STUDIES:Study those states! We have chosen our Famous Texans and will be doing research on our famous Texans in the computer lab this week. The research and report will be completed in the classroom and in the computer lab.
READING: We are working in literature circles, reading different novels. Your child is reading a certain book on their level, with other students in the class. We are focusing on the 6 major objectives in reading each week. We are completing activities in supporting ideas, sequence, main idea, detail, cause and effect, and fact and opinion. This week the students will be tested on their reading skills on the TAKS test.
VOCABULARY/SPELLING: The next two weeks our words will come from Unit #14 in the Vocabulary book. The unit test will be given the week after the TAKS tests. The children are working hard to understand the meaning, the usage, and the parts of speech for each word. Remember to review several nights a week(just 5 minutes makes a difference). This really helps with the context clues reading skill.
COMPUTER: Type to Learn 3 has 25 lessons, and many 4th graders have completed all 25 lessons! All 4th graders will complete the 25 lessons by the end of the year.Each child should set a goal to pace themselves between now and May. One week every month the lab is open at 7:30 for catch up time. If your child is not past Lesson 14, you need to make arrangements for early morning use of the computer lab.
