Reading: This week we will read Fernando's Gift. The children will read about a boy named Fernando who learns how important trees are for a beautiful, healthy environment, and so decides to give a special gift of a baby tree to his friend for her birthday.

**Look at the Quia Activity section below to play a vocabulary concentration game and word search that go with this story.
Skills: The boys and girls will be working on vocabulary development, identifying cause and effect relationships, and comparing and contrasting using Venn diagrams.
Language: This week the students will continue to learn about how to correctly use helping verbs. They will also learn how to write a cinquain poem.
Spelling: We are on Unit 20 in spelling. It will focus on the long o sound.
Math: In Math, we will continue to work on place value to 999 and compare and order numbers from least to greatest. Please remember to study your subtraction facts.
Social Studies: We will complete our unit on the symbols of the United States and begin to study famous Americans.
