Welcome to the SKMS/SHS web site. I will be sharing important dates and activities about GATE at both schools with you. Students may also post their work and thoughts at this site. The primary goal of the Shenandoah County GATE program is to meet the unique needs of gifted and bright students by providing a qualitatively differentiated educational program to assist them in recognizing and developing their special abilities. The student will be provided with educational experiences differing in pace and complexity from the core curriculum but commensurate with his/her interests and abilities.
The Gifted Resource Specialist at the high school is responsible for providing both direct and indirect services. Direct services may include advice on club and course selection, resume building, advising students about post secondary options, a "listening ear", free, gentle nagging, (i.e. due dates for tests, applications, etc.), advocacy, and information on enrichment opportunities, like Governor's School, PAVAN, and possible seminars. Indirect services include providing differentiation strategies to teachers and resource to parents.
