Critical Analytical Writing
When writing in 8th grade, please remember to use the following writing techniques. Each technique was discussed in detail during the first few weeks of school. They should have become second nature to you.
Beginning in January, I will make the these techniques a requirement for all assignments.
SIMPLE TECHNIQUES FOR BETTER WRITING.
1)Vivid and meaningful verb choice.
Avoid the following verbs: got, have, get, made, went, go, make, and do. Instead, use vivid verbs (got/received, went/attended). This will result in clear, concise writing.
2)Vary your Sentence Beginnings.
Avoid using the same part of speech when beginning your sentences (Article/Noun/Pronoun). Try to begin your sentences with meaningful adjective and adverb phrases where appropriate. This will improve the flow of your writing.
3)Vary your sentence structure.
Try to combine sentences that share an idea. Use short, direct sentences when you need to drive home a point!
4)If you use adjectives, they should be meaningful.
Avoid the following vague adjectives: very, great, good, and excellent. Instead, explain what you mean by these terms. When describing a movie as an awesome movie, it would be more clear to state that it was a suspenseful movie (or comical movie) depending upon your connotation of the word awesome.
Remember: I am available every afternoon (except Friday) for writing conferences.

Make sure that each body paragraph has a topic sentence(a statement regarding how your character, event, or theme is like a crucible
Two or three lead-in sentences supporting the evidence (the quote from the book).
Your evidence- The quote from the book (properly punctuated).
Two or three follow up sentences showing that the support is accurate.
A concluding sentence that leads into the next example which is provided in the next paragraph.
Concluding Paragraph
Make sure that your concluding paragraph "brings your point home". It needs to address the issues that you mentioned in the topic sentences of your 3 body paragraphs (and these three topic sentences should relate directly to your thesis statement). Attempt to make your last sentence memorable.....
