Dear Parents: May 18th. Tomorrow On Wednesday we will have Mass at 8:30. We have been asked to notify all parents who have volunteered in some way throughout the year to attend if possible to be recognized at this Mass. If you are able to come, please do so that you can be acknowledged. Also, we have 4 sweatshirts here in the class that have been unclaimed. If you are missing one, or think you are, please send a note or come see us. The end of the year is fast approaching…..My little friends are “growing up”, and I will miss them over the summer. We will be sending a packet home for the summer to work on skills to practice and prepare for 1st grade. Of course, reading is very important o keep up on. I might see you at the library this summer! Next week there will be no homework packet going home. We will have our End Of The Year party on the 27th. You should have received an email about that. Please read Sister Patricia’s Tuesday Letter for other important school news. As always, if you have questions…we are here….with a smile!! Mrs. Jordan Tuesday, April 27, 2010 Hello Parents: We had a great retreat today! Thank you for all the help and contributions. It made the retreat run very smoothly, and the children had a nice time. We are sharing the animal reports 2-3 a day, and when all the reports are shared, we will have a “show” in the classroom where all of the students can walk around and look at them more closely. We will be in charge of Closing Prayer on May 14th at 2:30. Tomorrow, your child will get in their agenda books their assignment (words) to read for Closing Prayer. PLEASE practice over and over at home. We will rehearse several times in the class and on stage to make it a spiritual and successful event. Next week, the other Kindergarten teachers and I will be on campus on Monday and Friday(the 3rd and 7th) to test the incoming students for next year. So, we will have subs in the room on those days. Also, I am going on a three day training in Flagstaff with 2 other teachers Tuesday-Thursday of the same week. The students will be in very good hands with the sub., as I will leave detailed plans. The office usually tries to get the same person when several days are involved. If you have any questions, please let me know. God Bless You, Mrs. Jordan April 13, 2010 Parents, Welcome back!! I sure hope you enjoyed the special time that you spent with your families over break. This week we will resume our regular schedule with lots of learning going on. Just a few notes and reminders: *We will have our class retreat on April 27th. Please look out for some upcoming information and opportunities to help. *Unit 9 Reading Assessment will be coming home this week for review and signing. *We have been having fun on a website called www.storyit.com . Check it out with your child and see how they can put the words into sentences, and explore the other games available. *By Friday all of the students will have had a chance to go to the Science Center to count, take inventory of grapefruit juice preference, and to squeeze with all their might the contents inside. We started today and had lots of fun. Five passersby were lucky enough to come and taste the “fruits of our labor”. Have a blessed week! Mrs. Jordan March 30, 2010 Parents We are reverently preparing for Easter during this week. Tomorrow we will shape pretzels together and bake them to remind us of the importance of prayer in our daily lives and during Easter. Field Day was very fun on Monday as the children did various fun activities on the field. I realized that I have quite a competitive class out there! All in good fun though! We completed our end of the Unit Assessment for Unit 9 today. The students did very well listening to directions and following along. These will go home soon. After break we will be sending home some information about upcoming preparations for an Animal Report the kids will be doing. It will be sent home in the Homework Packet after break. We wish you a very blessed Easter with your families! Thank you for sharing your beautiful children with us. Tuesday, March 23, 2010 Hello Parents! What a great day we had at the Desert Botanical Garden. The children learned many things and had the opportunity to practice their skills in a great way in public. I was very proud of them. As we prepare for Holy Week next week, we will discuss together the journey of Jesus and how WE can walk His journey also by how we conduct ourselves and treat others. We also will be making pretzels that have become a Lenten tradition to remind us of the importance of prayer during Lent. Next week we will complete Unit 9 in Reading and conduct an end of the Unit Assessment. We began Chapter 10 in Math on Geometric Figures. Have a super week this week! Mrs. Jordan March 8, 2010 Parent Letter Happy Tuesday! We are continuing to work hard in showing how First Grade ready we are and have become. Benny, are leprechaun friend continues to visit us and we write notes to him. It is fun. We also are enjoying the days as we continue to practice our self-discipline skills. We remind the students to try and talk about a problem that they may have with another student before coming to tell us. Once they go back and communicate nicely with that student, usually the problem is resolved. They are doing well. Please continue to send healthy snacks. It is nice to see all the variety. But, I will say the other day, there was quite the array of doughnuts and cookies. These could be for dessert for lunch, but not for morning snack. Please communicate to your child what is supposed to be eaten for snack. That would be great. God Bless You Mrs. Jordan March 1, 2010 Parents: Welcome to March! We are preparing to start Unit 9 in Reading, and completing our Chapter in telling time for Math. March brings us new and exciting times. Here are a few highlights of our room’s happenings: *We planted our own flowers in the art center with pictures of ourselves to remind us that during Lent we try to grow closer to Jesus by helping, sharing, and caring for others. When we are caught doing this, we get to put a sticker on the petals as a reminder of our progress. *We also planted lima beans to document the growth for Science. We are being great observers as we notice the changes that occur. *A new visitor has entered our room (secretly when we are gone), and his name is Benny the Leprechaun. He is Saint Patrick’s friend and we look forward to getting notes from him and learning more about Saint Patrick. We are writing to him, and we also made ropes for him to climb like he suggested! *On March 23rd we are going on a field trip to the Desert Botanical Garden. Look out for some more information coming your way in the Tuesday envelope. Continue reading every night and saying your prayers. Please also remind your children about the importance of “slowing down”. Several of them lately seem to be in such a rush as if they possibly might need some more sleep. I am quite familiar with “that look” of sleepiness with my own children. J God Bless You, Mrs. Jordan February 23, 2010 Parents Hello! I am going to start posting notes/reminders, etc…on the Quia site AND in hard copy form. I know as a parent, I like to have things posted on the good ol’ fridge to remind myself of upcoming events. We have a new visitor ( a stuffed animal) named Sister Rosa in our class. She travels with us to the different places we go. Soon, Father Diego will join her. In a couple of weeks, they will be coming to your house! They will be in a bag with a rosary, religious books, etc…and a journal to document what they will be doing on their visit. Look for them soon. We are collecting change for Lent for the CDA and the Building Fund. The students are encouraged to send in the change they have to fill up our container. On Wednesday we will have a visit from Mrs. Peay who works with her husband that is a local dentist. She will teach us lots of things on how to properly take care of our teeth. Keep reading with your children nightly. I am so proud of all the hard work they do every day, and how they are truly kind to eachother. Have a blessed rest of the week. Mrs. Jordan February 1, 2010 Happy Catholic School's Week!! What a fun Walk-A-Thon today! The students had fun walking with their partners this morning and enjoying snack today with them. Yesterday was great meeting all of the wonderful Grandparents. What special people! Tomorrow we will go to Church for a rosary. Don't forget Friday's Family Picnic. it gets crowded, so if you could come early, that would be great. Look out for some important information about our Valentine party next week... I hope you have a super week. :) Mrs. Jordan 1/26/09 We are busy bees this week talking about the weather, and doing some Science experiments in Centers. We started a new Unit in Reading, and continue to become great readers each and everyday! Next week will prove to be fruitful, fun, and family filled with all that is going on. Please refer to Sister Patricia's letter for all the details involved with Catholic School's Week. Kiss your children good night and love them with all your might! They are our true treasures. :)Mrs. Jordan 1/19/10 Hello Parents. We are here together to conquer another week. Thank you for your continued prayers and support for Lucas Gifford and his mother Nancy. Friday was a "normal"day for the students and we carried on as best as we could. We will continue to heal and walk this journey as a community together. May God always be with us. This week we are finishing Unit 6 in Reading and wrapping up our talks about neighborhoods. We have started new journals, and I am excited to see the growth from the last one that they completed. Those will be going home. Continue to aide your child by encouraging them to sound out the words and to remember the sight words they know. It is a little discouraging to see the homework come back for the sentence writing assignment with ALL of the words spelled correctly.(unless they are words they know of course!:) Please do not tell them how to spell every word. The students are also reading to me individually on Fridays. You have received the 1st little report to let you know how they have read the book that is for homework. Keep up the good work!! These will continue to come for a while. In Math we are talking about the measurement of length and weight. Talk to your child about this at home and let them measure things, or weigh items. I hope you have a great week. I am always truly grateful and happy for you and your precious children. You all are in my daily prayers. Now........go and spread God's love to those around you!! Take care. January 12, 2010 Happy Tuesday to you all. Today you received your child's report card in the Agenda Book, along with the latest Unit Assessment, of which they all did very well on. Please sign both and return. Today the students were shown a presentation again about the upcoming Walk-A-Thon. If you would like to review it, go to Ms. Murray's class web page and click Walk-A-Thon to review what this is with your child. They seem to think the money will go to them!! It will be a fun time to spend together with our partners and raise money for the school also. We have adjusted our Center routine, and it is working nicely. Each child has been assigned to a particular shape of a group, and they travel with those same people. It has been very helpful in eliminating the delay that sometimes occurs when they decide where to go. We are continuing to practice our DWP Social Skill at school and have talked about ways to do this at home too. Every Friday the students will be reading to me the books that are sent home for Homework practice. Please continue to listen to your child read the stories more than once for reading fluency. They are doing well!! Continue to keep us in your prayers, as we do you everyday. :)
1/4/10 Happy New Year to you all! Thank you so very much for all your gifts and generosity bestowed to me for Christmas. I truly do appreciate it. Welcome back to a new year and to new beginnings. The children have grown and have received new responsibilities in the classroom. They have so far in the past 2 days been able to meet the expectations! We are focusing on our DWP Social Skills this week and talking about the importance of properly meeting and greeting new friends/people. Hopefully you will notice a little difference at home! Please join us for Mass anytime you are able. They love it. Report cards will go home next Tuesday.
12/16/09 The children did a fantastic job last night! They truly gave Jesus a wonderful gift. As we wrap up the week, please remember to send the used toy and book for the prayer partner. We are looking forward to celebrating our time together on Friday. I hope you have a great rest of the week.
December 8th Dear Parents: What a busy, yet joyful time of year. A few odds and ends: 1)We are asking each child to bring in a used toy from home that they no longer play with; to really look and think about a toy that another child would like to have. They can bring it to school by the 18th, and one of the centers will be to clean it with wipes if needed, to possibly wrap it, and to make cards. 2)Each student has secretly picked an Advent Prayer Partner that they are saying extra prayers for, smiling at; doing nice things for, etc....On the 18th we will have a book exchange. So parents are asked to purchase a book ($5.00 or less) for the prayer partner that their child picked, wrap it at home and send with their child. This will be the ending to our fun day 3)Please continue to send water bottles. We have made our baby Jesus cribs. Each time we are caught doing a random act of kindness, we will place a piece of straw for the infant to lie in. These will be sent home next week. We are starting to stay for the whole Mass. The students are being very reverent and they sing nicely too. I am so proud of them! Have a super week.
December 1, 2009 Happy Advent to you all! I hope you enjoyed the holiday with your family. A note from Mrs. Rahman: Dear Parents, We look forward to all of the children participating in the musical entitled “The Christmas Chronicles” for our Advent program on Tuesday, December 15 at 6:30 pm. The children have been practicing very hard to make this a wonderful program for you. The success of the program depends on everyone participating as this is a school wide activity. All children are in two numbers. The first number is performed with their grade level and the second number is the finale. Children need to be in their classrooms at 6:00 pm on December 15. All children must be picked up after the entire program from their classrooms, where they will receive a special treat. We ask your cooperation and regard for the children’s safety in following this procedure. Please do not take your child while they are in transition from the church to their classroom. Thank you for your assistance in making this a blessed time. Mrs. Rahman Please make sure names are on all sweaters that are worn to school. Have a great week!
November 24th Dear Parents, 1) Please remember to send a canned food item with your child by Wednesday so that we can offer them at mass for St. Vincent de Paul. 2)Please read the info. below from Sister Patricia regarding raffle ticket rewards: The students were really enthusiastic about and did an awesome job with the Fall Festival Raffle. They made their three goals very easily and earned their rewards. The staff decided on the following dates for the "rewards": Extra Recess/Break: Week of Dec. 7-11 (Time/day decided by the classroom teacher) Free Sock/Shoe Day: Tuesday, December 1st (Must wear playground safe shoes) Free Dress Day: Tuesday, November 24th Thank you again for your fabulous support of the raffle and all of Fall Festival. The excitement Saturday evening and Sunday was infectious! Truly...a good time was had by all. 3) Thanksgiving Feast is Wednesday, tomorrow from 10:00-11:00. If you can join us that would be great. Noon dismissal. I am GRATEFUL to you all for giving me such sweet children to work with each and everyday!! God Bless You and enjoy your Thanksgiving!!
November 17, 2009 It was nice to see many of you at the Fall Festival. It looked like all the children were having a grand time!! We proceed with a pretty normal week this week. Next week however, will provide us with some experiences. We will be meeting with our partners on Tuesday, and our Annual Thanksgiving Feast will be on Wednesday. Look out for more information coming your way. In this week's unit we are talking about what it takes to prepare for a meal....fits in nicely with our preparation for Thanksgiving. Many students contributed ways that they help to prepare/get ready for dinner, etc...setting the table, setting out food, cleaning up. I encouraged them to continue to help out at home...even my little friends who looked at me awkwardly when they tried to think of ways they help at a meal and could not come up with any. :) So.......hopefully you will see more involvement with your meal preparation/clean-up this week with our most recent conversations! Have a super week. God Bless.
November 10th Happy Tuesday! It was a great pleasure to visit with everyone last week for conferences. Each one of your children is precious, and I truly do enjoy working with them every day. Today you will receive the Reading Assessment in the Tuesday Envelope. Please review and sign. Now that we are in the 2nd Quarter, these will begin to come home on a regular basis along with the Math Assessments to be signed and returned the next day. Thank you. Homework Packets went home yesterday. Please read the enclosed paper to see what needs to be done, and return it with completed items on Friday. I hope the section at the bottom of the homework cover sheet is helpful for you to assist your child with the sounds and sights words that have been covered so far. Thank you for all of the toilet paper rolls…we need more if you have any. Also, we are down to one box of Kleenex. If you could donate some Kleenex to the classroom, we would be grateful. We are progressing well with our daily routine while learning and having fun. Next week we will be going on a “Listening Walk” around campus to enjoy the many wonders God has blessed us with and to collect a variety of leaves for our Science Center. Enjoy your week. Mrs. Jordan
November 3, 2009 I am looking forward to seeing everyone at conferences this week. I was at a seminar yesterday, and I am greatly looking forward to utilizing some new ideas that I learned with the students! God Bless.
October 27, 2009 Today you will be receiving your child’s report card in the Tuesday envelope. All students received a certificate today to acknowledge one quality that they did well for 1st Quarter. They have so many qualities to be proud of. Two Saint Theresa Awards were also given. These are given to students who practice the skills modeled by Saint Theresa on a daily and consistent basis. The Bronco citizenship award is given to students who have had no unexcused tardies, absences, or early release days, and who have not completed a Student Action Plan. Please sign the back of the report card, and return only the report card in the envelope in a timely manner. We will review the report card at conferences next week. The students are doing so well working as a group and showing respect to one another. I am SO proud of them!! Please take the time to review all that is in the Tuesday envelope today. Thank you!!
October 20, 2009 Welcome to a new week! We are busy bees getting a lot done! The students have been reminded that it is now Second Quarter, so new expectations are underway. They will have more responsibility. We talked about the expectations and areas of focus for 2nd Quarter. The students were shown a Primary Student Action Plan. This paper is simply our communication tool from school to alert you to any misbehavior. The student conferences with the teacher to fill it out, and then they sign it to go home. This stays in the classroom file as a reference only. If you have questions, please let me know. Continue reading and writing the title of the book that is read in the Agenda. Students can write their own title too! Take home homework will begin after conferences. More will follow in a Tuesday letter soon. Have a great week.
Your child will come home with a wish list for the book fair. They will be able to purchase all week, so please send any money in a sealed envelope with their name on it. They can purchase the items on the wish list or pick different ones. :)
October 19, 2009 Parents, Today we will be going to the Book Fair Preview. Your child will get a chance to look at all the wonderful books for purchase and create a wish list. More details to follow. Have a great day!!
October 13, 2009 Parents, Wow! What a fun day today at the pumpkin patch! Thank you to all who came to help. We had a wonderful time. Today you will either receive a paper from me or your child’s (children’s) other teacher(s) indicating time preferences for upcoming conferences. Please fill out and send to the teacher that it was received from. Thank you. Sweatshirts may be worn to school. They must be uniform sweatshirts. PLEASE read the section of the handbook regarding this. It explains it very well. The students are to read every night and the title of the book must be written in the agenda. This should be done nightly, and the students are aware of it. We use this as a reading log. Remember that all this information that is sent your way every Tuesday is always on the Quia site. I am sending it hard copy today as a reminder, but every Tuesday please have it as a routine to check the website for information. It is always posted before the end of the school day on Tuesday. Thank you, Mrs. Jordan
