Ducks of a Different Feather Project Rules
General Entry Instructions:
Each participant should fill out an entry form. Entry forms will be delivered to each school with the ducks. Each entry form has a unique number. This number should be written on the bottom of the duck in permanent marker and also on the essay in the top right hand corner, along with the grade level of the entrant. (For example, Entry # 497, Grade 5) The entry number and the grade level of the entrant are the ONLY identification that should appear on the essay paper. The essay should NOT include the name or the school site or the entrant. That information should only appear on the entry form. ALL ENTRIES (ducks, essays, and entry forms) ARE DUE IN THE BHS CHOIR ROOM BY 4:00 PM FEBRUARY 26, 2010.
Preparing the Ducks:
Any medium that will remain attached to the duck may be used. You may use permanent markers, paint, glue, pipe cleaners, etc. Ducks may NOT be attached to a base or platform of any kind. The entry number of the duck must be clearly visible on the bottom of the duck. Items may be attached to the duck, but the overall dimensions of the duck cannot exceed 4 inches high, 4 inches long, or 4 inches wide. Although the point of the duck project is to express individuality and promote tolerance, school policies preventing the promotion of violence and the use of drugs or alcohol do still apply and ducks or essays that promote them will not be included for display.
Preparing the Essay:
The essay should provide a clear explanation of the entrant’s duck. The focus should be on what makes the duck unique and what makes it a representation of the entrant. Essays may be typed or handwritten. The essay cannot exceed one 8 ½” by 11” page. Typed essays may be either double or single spaced. All entries should be submitted on 8 ½” by 11” paper. Entries exceeding one page will not be eligible for prizes.
Judging:
All entries will be judged by a committee of judges. The names of those on the judging committee will be posted on the project web page. First, second, and third place winners will be chosen at each grade level. For the purposes of the competition, the grade levels will be considered Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. Faculty members are also invited to submit ducks and essays. Faculty entries are for display only and are not eligible for prizes.
