-Read a total of approximately 120-150 minutes per week. (Signed off by a parent on monthly reading log calendar.)

What can parents do to help?
• Practice basic math facts at home. (For example; 9x7, 8x3, 5+9)
• Have discussions with your child about his/her reading.
• Create a filing system at home for completed units. (This will be helpful for mid-terms and final exams!)
• Periodically check your child’s expandable.

Some things that may occur if a child is not turning in homework?

• When the child accumulates three hours worth of work, the child reports to Saturday School (8:00AM.-11:00AM.)

Homework:

I-f your child goes beyond “frustration level” attempting to complete an assignment, send in a note or sign the homework paper. (More than an hour is too much!)
I-f your child seems to have no homework, feel free to check the agenda book. (Some children are effective time managers!) You could also check the class web page.
-Reading  every night is homework.
-Students will be writing in their writing notebook on a regular basis.

Math: Ms. Moehler
Instruction
• The first 5-10 minute, the students may be taking notes on the objective. (If you help with homework at home, have your child bring home his/her notebook. )
• Students then practice the new objective on their dry erase boards (or in notebooks).
• We go over the previous day’s homework.
Graded worksheets: We go over thoroughly before the quiz or test.
• Textbooks should be left at home as reference for you and your child.

Common Parent Questions:

Q: When should we throw out math worksheets?

A: When we complete a Math unit (You'll know because the test will have already occurred), any papers from that unit should be filed at home. Before the papers get thrown out, students/parents should be sure that all papers have been graded or have a stamp on it (confirming that it has been checked off in Ms. Moehler's gradebook).  All Tests will have the student's new average written on it. Any student that has an average that is not WELL above a 70% should hold on to ALL papers until the end of the quarter.

Q: What if my child is absent?

A: Call in your child's absense (456-2306). If it is convenient, pick up your child's work at the greeter's desk after 3:00. Your child also has the option to pick it up on the way to homeroom on the next attended school day.

Q: How does a student get selected for Math acceleration in seventh grade?

A: In April, the following areas will be evaluated by the guidance department for potential acceleration candidates:
-Student Rank in Class
-Attendance
-CAI Performance
-State Exam Performance Levels
-Grade 5 FSM
-Grade 6 Quarterly Averages/Mid-Term
-Student Motivation, Maturity, Ability, and Homework Habits.
