                                                  News To Use

We are well on our way into the last marking period of this school year.  Where did the time go?  This marking period promises to be as busy as all the rest.  We are all greatly looking forward to some fun outdoor activities and learning experiences!

In science, we will be focusing on plants and how they grow.  Your child will be planting a pumpkin and sunflower seed.  This is a great hands-on unit that can be supplemented at home.  Your child would welcome the opportunity to help you garden and care for plants at home.  We will also use Earth Day as an opportunity to clean up and plant flowers around the school.

We are finishing Unit 5 in our reading text.  This unit continues to focus upon finding the main idea, distinguishing fact from opinion, pronouns, and contractions.  Please remind your child to read each night for their AR points.  I am hoping that every student will make their AR goal this quarter.

In math, we will focus upon: geometry, measurement and probability.  Geometry will be our first unit.  Our focus will be upon three dimensional solid figures such as a sphere, cylinder, pyramid, rectangular prism, and a cube.  Your child will be able to differentiate between a solid figure and a plane figure.  Your child will be able to define faces, edges, and corners. We will also be focusing upon lines of symmetry.  Measurement will focus upon length, mass, and volume.  We will also be using thermometers to distinguish between Celsius and Fahrenheit.  Probability will offer your child the chance to explore and understand chance.  In this unit, we will be using the terms: impossible, likely, equally likely, more likely, and certain.  We will also be revisiting the interpretation of data and graphs.

As always, I would like to send out special thanks to the parents.  Thank you for continuing to encourage your child to do their very best.  I appreciate your support!
