One will be due at the end of the 1st Trimester, you will write 2 during the 2nd trimester, and 1 will be due towards the end of the year. You will choose one of the formats from the following 7 choices. Your book MUST be approved by me and you must choose a different book report format for each book! 1. Write a Letter to the author After reading a book, share your reactions to the book in a letter written to its author. If a you write to an author who is still alive, you might actually want to mail the letter. When you are sharing your reactions about the book make sure to explain why you feel the way that you do. This should be about 3 paragraphs long. 2. Picture Books After reading a book, create a picture book version of the story that would appeal to younger students. You should have at least 5 well illustrated pictures with a couple words to a sentence on each page of the book. It should be obvious what the book is about by just looking at the picture book. 3. Summary Write a short summary explaining the main parts of the book. Introduce the setting, plot, and characters. This should be no longer than 3 paragraphs. Then, in one paragraph give your critique on the book. 4. Scrap Book Think about all the different memories you would put into a scrapbook if you were going to create a scrapbook for one of the characters in the book. Cut out pictures from magazines or newspapers that would help create memories for that character. Your scrapbook should to be at least 3 pages and with it you need to have a one page paper explaining why you chose these items for your character’s scrapbook. 5. Poster Board Find six photos or magazine pictures or items that would be significant to your story’s main character. Place them on a poster and next to the pictures or items write an explanation of why these pictures would be significant to the main character. 6. Sell It! You will pretend to be a publicist for the book that you just read. You will write and then deliver a 60-second speech that will persuade other students that they should read the book. Make sure you spend some time on this. You need to be prepared and know how you are going to persuade your audience to read this book. You will turn in the written speech. 7. Glossary and Word Search You will create a glossary of twenty words that are specific to the book's tone, setting, or characters. You will define each word and write a sentence FROM THE BOOK that includes that word. Then you will create a word search puzzle that includes the glossary words.
