Desert Heights Elementary School

Dear Students, Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to Mr. Eng’s Mathematics Class. I will be your teacher for the upcoming 2001/02 school year, and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to my class. I am looking forward to a successful and pleasant year.

I have been teaching middle school for 2 years. I am originally from Sweden and have lived in England, Holland, Brazil, New York, Ohio, and most recently in Atlanta, Georgia. I have been in phoenix for a little over one year.

This year we will be studying a variety of mathematical concepts including but not limited to number theory, ratios and proportions, fractions, geometry, algebra, as well as learning general life and study skills that will help the students well into the future.

I have an open door policy in my classroom, meaning that if you ever have any questions you are more than welcome to set up an appointment to meet with me privately or you may call me or email me at any time. I will return any messages as soon as possible. I will be sending out progress reports throughout the year.
In addition to the general school rules in place at Desert Heights, I have 4 main rules in my classroom that I expect everyone in my class to follow, they are; 1) Be respectful, 2) Be responsible, 3) XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I do allow the use of calculators in my classroom once the student has passed a basic math skills test.

The completion of all homework assignments given in class is vital to a successful year in my classroom. I will have homework check sheets that will go home every week for parent/guardian signature showing all work that has been or needs to be completed. Homework will be due on the assigned date during your class period. Any work handed in after that will be given 50% credit (unless due to excused absence from class).

Please see the attached sheet for a list of materials that the student will need in my class for the upcoming year.

I look forward to getting to know you all and making this a fun and productive year.

Sincerely,

Mr. Eng
