SAFETY!!!SAFETY!!! Parents, please note at the bottom of this site the days in which your child has PE. On those days, please send your child to school with sneakers and clothing suitable for vigorous physical activity. Students are not allowed to participate wearing sandals, flip-flops, shoes, crocs or other footwear that might not provide adaquate traction and proper foot support. Also please refrain from sending your child to school on "gym" days wearing jewelry of any kind. The Johnstown City School District has a policy in which jewelry is not allowed to be worn during PE class for safety purposes. Thank You
Healthy Steps Walking Challenge October 2007: For two weeks in October, students in all four elementary schools took part in the Walking challenge. As part of this event, kids wore pedometers during the school day that kept track of how far they travelled. The more they were active in PE class and at recess, the more miles they piled up for their class score. The class who walked the most combined miles each day got recognized by having their class mentioned on the morning announcements the following day. This was a fun way to encourage the students to be active in order to get fit and have fun.
FITNESS WARMUPS Students at Jansen Ave. begin each class with a warmup that concentrates on an area of fitness. The three main fitness componets that are covered are 1. SPEED AND AGILITY > 2. ENDURANCE---------- 3. MUSCULAR STRENGTH Improvement in each of these areas will make for healthier students who will also show improvement in academic ability and concentration and improvements in extracurricular activities they may be involved in.
