Welcome to Advanced Placement Psychology!  I am very pleased to have you in our class.  Please take note of the activities/assignments listed below and the date they are due.  All work is to be turned in at the beginning of the class period on the dated specified. 

August 8, 2001-  1st day of class.  Introductions and first day tasks.  Assign textbooks.  Homework- Begin reading Chp 1.  Be prepared to contribute to tomorrow's lecture and discussion.


August 9, 2001-  Begin Chp 1.  Chapter 1 explains the limits of intuition and common sense in reasoning about behavior and mental processes.  Chapter 1 also explains how psychologists employ the research designs of description, correlation, and experimentation in order to objectively describe, predict, and explain behavior.  Chapter 1 concludes with the discussion of many questions people often ask about psychology.

"Warm up"- Topic:  "Why did you sign up for AP Psychology?"
Class Lecture & Discussion
Homework- Read "Thinking Critically With Pasychological Science.  A Touching Experiment"  Reflect on this reading and be prepared to discuss it in class tomorrow.


August 10, 2001-  Continue Chp 1.

Plan for the day
"Warm up"- Topic:  "Who are you and what do want to do after you graduate from high school?"
In-class activity:  Critical Thinking Exercise by Richard O. Straub.
Homework- Review the information in Thinking Critically exercises #2 and #3.  Visit the web sites listed and be prepared to discuss the questions from each exercise on Monday.  Prepare for a quiz over Chapter 1 vocabulary to be given on Monday.  Go to www.worthpublishers.com/myers5e/con_index.htm?99qiz and select the flashcard page.  Practice the flashcards and study there contents.
