Fall Happenings in rooms 15 and 17 It is hard to believe we are at the end of Term #1. The students are continuing to adjust to the demands of grade 5, but are settling in to our routines and expectations. We are continuing to build our classroom communities and are coming together as a classroom family and team using the Responsive Classroom philosophy. Science has taken us to the Solar System and back to gain a greater understanding of the Earth's place in space. Thank you to all the families who were able to send in supplies for our Edible Moon Phases activity. It was delicious and a great way to see who has been studying. In mathematics, we have completed unit one on divisibility and had a very successful first quiz. Congratulations!! On to method of computation and data sets and landmarks. Social Studies has taken us to early explorations and we are we are headed for learning about the early settlements in North America. We have had learned different types of research and studied many different famous explorers-who knew Marco Polo was a real person? In ELA we have completed almost all of unit 1 and covered quite a bit of grammar, types of sentences, subjects & predicates, run-on sentences, fragments and continuing to learn about elements of different genre and plot, character, setting and author's purpose. We have even learned how to complete research using the database on the OCLN site and complete a MLA bibliography! We have finished our first five paragraph essay test and assignments and are getting ready for another! As always, feel free to contact us with any questions~ email is the best as our phones have not been working properly here at Cole School . fitzgibbons@norwellschools.org (Math & Science) uhlman@norwellschools.org (Language Arts & Social Studies) CHECK OUT THE FIFTH GRADE PORTA-PORTAL LINK BELOW Mrs. Fitz and Mrs. Uhlman
