HOMEWORK
Each afternoon I write the homework down so that the students can easily copy it into their assignment notebooks. Each evening please sign, or initial in the appropriate spot at the bottom of the page to indicate that your child copied the assignments neatly into their notebook and that you are aware that they had homework to complete. Students will have homework Monday through Thursday with a rare weekend assignment. Assignments should take approximately 30 minutes with no, or little parental help. Part of their homework each night is to read for fifteen minutes and record it on their reading log.

WEEKLY TAKE HOME FOLDER
We pass out papers once a week. After they are passed the children are asked to look over their work, ask any questions they might have at that point, and then place them inside their Weekly Take Home Folders. When you get these papers home please take them out of the folder and sign the sheet inside that indicates you have received the papers. Your child should return this folder to school the next day. If time allows this is the best time to go over the work your child has done during the last week - if not you may look at them the next evening. It is important that your child see, and understand, the mistakes they have made so that they will learn from their mistakes. Sometimes I will ask students to correct and return work in this folder. If I write this on a paper they have three days to return the corrected, or redone paper to me. Parents have liked this approach over the years because it gives an overview of the progress their child has made over the entire week. This year the folders will usually come home on Friday afternoons.

TESTING
I give at least two days notice for unit tests. They will have this written in their assignment notebooks. I ask that all tests be signed to signify that you have seen these scores.

CLASSROOM LIBRARY
We have many books in our class library. Students may borrow books for reading in the classroom simply by selecting a book and placing the bookcard into their pocket. They are allowed to have two of our class library books in their book baggie in their desks. Students should have a book to read in their desk at all times. Students may only take books home from our classroom library with special permission.

CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS
In order to help provide my students with an excellent educational climate, all students are expected to behave in an acceptable manner. I believe that success in life depends on self-discipline. In our classroom we have a plan to encourage this. For all of our actions there are reactions. For positive reactions (rewards) your child will receive praise, notes, free time and other extra privileges. Negative reactions (consequences) will occur in steps for individual students on a given day. These rules and consequences are posted in our classroom and are discussed as needed. All members of our class benefit from a classroom ready to learn and do their best at all times!

ABSENT STUDENTS
Students who are absent are required to complete work that they missed. When returning to school students will find their assignments listed on a Missed Assignment sheet on their desks. Any handout that they need will also be on their desks. They may have two days to complete these assignments and hand them in to me for credit. If they have any questions on the assignments they may check with a buddie, myself, or you may assist at home. Please remember to send in a written excuse when your child returns to school.

BIRTHDAYS
We love to recognize birthdays in school! When your child’s birthday is coming up, we always welcome treats for the students in the class. It helps if you let me know in advance that you will be be sending in a treat to celebrate your child’s birthday.
