Week of April 24, 2006
The final Language Arts theme for the year is Travel Time. The five selections in this theme are adventure stories, and children will explore new ideas and places as they read them.
The theme begins with Montigue on the High Seas, by John Himmelman, a fiction story about a mole who gets washed out to sea and has many adventures before returning home.
Your child can review and practice the vocabulary words and definitions for Montigue on the High Seas by clicking the Java Games link in the Quia activities section below. It may be helpful to print out the list of terms (vocabulary words and meanings) from the game choices page so your child can refer to them as needed during practice. Once your child can easily match the words and definitions, try playing the Columns Game where vocabulary words are used in the context of sentences.
The Useful links section at the bottom of the Class Page features hyperlinks to other sites that contain background materials and enrichment activities that go along with this week's story. These links are provided as an extra opportunity for fun and learning for you and your second grader.
Bonus Activity: Use one of the links from the Useful links section to print a word search about Oceans. There are a couple from which to choose. Find as many of the listed words as you can, and bring your completed word search puzzle to school to show Ms. Pellarin. You will receive a prize for your efforts.
