“Hope does not disappoint us.” May 2012 Dear Third Grade Parents, This is the month of May in which we honor our Blessed Mother Mary. Each class will take turns in bringing in flowers for the prayer table in the main hall of the school. More information will be sent on this for which week the third graders are responsible. Flowers could also be sent in at any time for the prayer table in our own 3rd grade classroom. We will be praying a decade of the Rosary each day to honor Mary. In our Religion book we are remembering that as Catholics we share the same beliefs as stated in the Apostles' Creed, and we share in God's life and love by celebrating the sacraments. In math we are working on a geometry unit. There is so much vocabulary to learn that we are making vocabulary sheets. The students are enjoying practinging drawing the different geometric shapes on their white boards and on dot paper. They have to know the difference between isosceles, equilateral, and scalene triangles and much more! We will be moving into the unit on fractions very soon. We are reading a great book about prairie life in the late 1800's entitled Sarah Plain and Tall. The students are learniing the difficult skill of inferencing. We are going to finish the book with a final assignment of their choice. They must choose among either 1)Character Description, 2)Summary, 3)Setting, or 4)Sequel. Thank you, Mrs. Tapay
