Course Syllabus

Room 149 Course Length:  1 Semester

DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to expand the student’s skills using advanced features of the word processor, database manager, and a spreadsheet.  The specific applications covered include the Microsoft Office software of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.  The student will have “hands-on” experiences using an IBM computer.  Students will create a variety of business and personal documents.

OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Log on and utilize networking capabilities.
2. Create a present a slideshow using PowerPoint.
3. Create documents and manipulate text using Microsoft Word.
4. Create and manipulate spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.
5. Create and manipulate database using Microsoft Access.

CLASSROOM TEACHING METHODS:
Lecture, demonstration using projector, cooperative learning, individual learning, written and production quizzes, textbook application assignments, review questions, term project and presentation, written and production tests, hands-on applications.

EVALUATION:
Evaluation will be based on the following:  attendance, class participation, textbook application assignments, term project presentations, tests, and quizzes.  Grades are issued at nine week intervals.  Progress reports will be issued the fourth week of each nine week period.  Students are responsible for their work and to find out what needs to be done to achieve good academic standing, i.e. retake a test or complete exercises on information covered.  The grading scale will be
100 A+
99-94 A
93-90 A-
89-87 B+
86-83 B
82-80 B-
79-77 C+
76-73 C
72-70 C-
68-69 D+
66-67 D
65 D-
0-64 F
The lowest grade for credit will be a 65%.

Procedures:

1. Get to class as quickly as possible.
2. Turn work in on time.  You have 3 days to make up assignments and tests if you miss school.  If you know you are going to be absent, try to make up the work ahead of time.
3. Textbooks are available to check out by students for make up work or study purposes.  Students are responsible for replacement costs of books that are lost or not returned. ($50.00)
4. All students @ HHS were assigned a flash drive. This will be used to store assignments.
5. You may work on assignments at home with your laptop and your flash drive.
6. One student at a time will be permitted to use the restroom.  Make sure you take the pass.
7. Grades can be check anytime for immediate feedback.
8. Missing task reports will be handed out each class time or as often as needed.
9. Tornado and Fire procedures are posted in the classroom for easy reference.
10. Each student is given a course syllabus stating the course description, objectives, teaching methods, evaluation procedures, projects and assignments, and the textbook used.
11. Each student that returns the bottom portion on this page signed by a parent and the student by Friday, January 22nd will be given one free assignment ticket.  The student can then choose one daily assignment and not have to turn in that paper.
12. Other procedures we will talk about;  *neat areas  *assigned seats  *extra credit  *recycle 
*dress code *save assignments and *bell work.
