What else is out there?

This is a page for those of you curious about physical science.  What's the point?  What do we know or what don't we know?  I hope to keep you up on some of the things that scientists are doing out there right now in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Genetics, whatever.  Check out some of these ideas on the web!

Is there matter out there in the Universe that we can't see?  Scientists predict that there is more to matter than what we see here on earth.  According to some theories there is "dark matter" floating around in space.  It doesn't absorb or reflect light.  Could we ever find something like that out there?  Whoa!

Dark energy, too?  So, scientists are starting to say that the universe is flat and it is still expanding, in fact it is accelerating in its expansion.  What makes it DO that?  Was there extra energy left over after the Big Bang (ask me about that sometime)?  Maybe there IS dark energy out there.

We have a nicely outlined periodic table that can give us a lot of information about the way that elements behave.  But where did all these elements come from?  Stars are constantly carrying out fusion reactions, the joining of two Hydrogen atoms to form Helium.  That's how our Sun provides light and heat for us.  But what about elements like gold, and uranium and sulfur and iodine?  Scientists are starting to guess that neutron stars, which contain excess neutrons form heavier elements if they collide and make a black hole.
