    All:

    Students are expected to fully participate in Wednesday Mass. Participation means responding to Fr. Thuc and Fr. Ernesto during the homily, responding respecfully at all appropriate times, and singing. Participation also means that you are not disruptive or disrespectful. Showing up to Mass and sitting quietly does not count as participation. Which schoolwide learning expectation is this?

    Schoolwide Learning Expectations- The SLE's

    8th Grade: The entire 8th grade class has been given an assignment about respect. The assignment will be reviewed for a Religion grade. The assignment must be written in 1st person singluar and a student may only speak about him/her self in their essay. 8th Grade Respect Assignment This assignment is updated in powerschool as of Friday afternoon (11.06.09). The assignment is 2 parts, HW4 and HW5. A M indicates that a student has not submitted that part of the assignment.

    7th and 8th Grade: Powerschool is updated to reflect service hours assignments. Service hours have been entered as a participation grade; students earned 25 points for completing their hours and submitting their book. M indicates that a student has not met this requirement. The reflections have been entered but not graded. Reflections that I have received are indicated by a U. Those that I have not received are indicated by a M.

    Service Hours

    7th and 8th grade students have all received their service hours log for this school year. They designed a cover and selected a quote from the New Testament to serve as their motto for doing service this year.

    Guidelines:

    Students may earn up to 5 hours for singing in the school choir and up to 5 hours for serving as an altar server (with any parish). Beyond that, students may choose how they wish to serve the community to fulfill their 20 hour requirement.

    6 hours will be due NOVEMBER 2nd for Trimester 1
    7 hours will be due FEBRUARY 22nd for Trimester 2
    7 hours will be due MAY 17th for Trimster 3

    If a student completes all of their hours in the first or second trimester, that's great! They do not need to do additional hours. This is simply the minimum number of hours required each trimester that I will check off, and this serves as a way to ensure that students do not procrastinate and wait until May to complete all 20 hours. Students must keep track of their hours all year as at year end, I will collect everything. If a student loses their log, they must relog their hours.

    The reflection criteria has been discussed in class and students have all started working on this assignment. Trimester 1 Service Hours Reflection Criteria

    Science Camp

    This year, the 6th grade will go to Science Camp at Caritas Creek in Cazadero, CA from April 12th through April 16th. This is an exciting adventure for the students and is a part of the Saint Lawrence Science curriculum.

    The total cost of Science Camp as well as the payment schedule will be made available shortly.

    Please check back to see when the Science Camp information meeting hosted by the Caritas Creek program director will be held.

    Each year we run an ice cream fundraiser in an attempt to decrease the total cost of camp. On Wednesdays and Fridays, 3 students and 1 parent volunteer to sell ice cream at lunch. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, a parent purchases the ice cream to be sold (and is reimbursed). Please consider helping us in our effort to decrease the total cost. This fundraiser cannot work without your help. Additionally, students look forward to their parents helping on campus. All volunteers (those who are working on campus) must have fingerprints and a TB test on file in the office.

    New York/Boston

    7th and 8th grade students are invited to attend the Spring trip to Boston and New York. Please contact Ms. Suty or Mr. Gardner for more information. The trip will be during Easter break-students will not miss school.

      Bibles

      Several students have asked me what Bible I use in the classroom. I have always been a huge fan of the NAB (New American Bible, a Catholic translation). In Religion class, we use the NAB Catholic Youth Bible. This is a great translation, with relevant information for teens. If you are interested in purchasing a bible for the home, this would be a great choice. I have also added a link to the useful links section of this page where students can access an online version of the bible, by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. This can be a great resource for assignments throughout the year.

      Powerschool

      When you view PowerSchool, you may notice some letter codes. Here is the key:

      U = Unrecorded (This assignment has not yet been recorded)
      RE = Redo (0 points) (The student has his/her paper and needs to redo and turn it in for credit)
      M = Missing (0 points)
      AB = Absent (0 points) (The student has the number of days absent to make up the assignment for full points.)
      EX = Excused
      INC = Incomplete (0 points) (The student needs to complete the assignment in order to receive a grade.)
      If a number or assignment is in blue, click on it and more information will appear. Example, if you are curious to know what HW1 is, click on the link for a description.
