Our project this year is researching the possibility of finding, identifying, and comparing cinder cone volcanoes on Mars with cinder cone volcanoes on Earth. Currently we are studying the cinder cones in Lassen Park to learn more about volcanic features on Cinder Cones. We have completed our Preliminary Research and have many examples of Cinder Cone type volcanoes on Mars. We have used many different NASA research sites from numerous Mars Orbiters and cameras aboard those spacecraft. On Friday, February 15 we held a "live" video conference and presented our Preliminary Research/Proposal to the Mars Facility at Arizona State University. Download the archived NASA-Evergreen Preliminary Presentation by selecting the link on the USEFUL LINKS section at he bottom of this website.

Data Collection Protocols – Team Checklist
Directions: We need to focus our research on two different types of cone features, The first type are the cone features we've found that look structurally similar to Cinder Cones on Earth. The other cone features are called "Rootless Cones" and our two images seem to have these in the images.
Team Member Assignments
1. Type in "Rootless Cones" in a search system like Google.
2. Print off any article that deals with Rootless Cones.
3. Record all Rootless Cone characteristics.
4. Collect and Record all data on your record sheet.
5. Record the latitude and longitude for your assigned sections of the data. (Mr. Mitchell will hand these out.)
Check the calendar for meeting dates and assignments.
