US HISTORY A: PERIODS 2&3
ASSIGNMENT: CIVIL WAR NEWSPAPER
PURPOSE: The purpose of this assignment is to create a newspaper using pictures taken during the civil war and other primary source documents.
PROCEDURE:
1. Visit the website: http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/cwtake.html (link below)
2. Choose a picture from the site that interests you. Print out one copy for your newspaper.
3. Complete a photographic analysis for the picture you have chosen.
4. Write a newspaper article that reports the facts associated with your photograph, using various primary sources from the Civil War. Remember to include the following in your article: (1) HEADLINE, (2) BYLINE, (3) LEAD PARAGRAPH, (4) EXPLANATION & AMPLIFICATION, and (5) BACKGROUND INFORMATION
5. Peer edit newspaper articles using peer review sheet.
6. Re-write article using peer's suggestions.
7. Complete self-assessment sheet and hand in with article.
8. DO NOT FORGET: WORKS CITED!!!
GRADING: This project is worth one test grade (100 points). I wil provide you with a rubric prior to the completion of the assignment.
