  Guide to how students will be evaluated on their participation in the classroom
Participation in the foreign language classroom is very important if you want to succeed in learning the language. By participating actively in each lesson, you practice the new vocabulary, phrases and structures we've learned. The more often you read and say the new words and use them in context sentences, the more familiar you will get with the spelling and the sound of them. You will have many opportunities to use German in both structured activities and open ended conversations in the classroom. Make the most of each lesson and participate actively! Participation makes up 25% of your final grade. 
Below you can see what the expectations for each level of achievement are:

A
The student
- uses a variety of vocabulary
- demonstrates learning of new words, expressions, phrases, and structures
- fulfills his/her role and actively contributes to group/partner work
- participates very actively in class throughout the school year

B
The student
- uses a variety of vocabulary
- shows some learning of new words, expressions, phrases, and structures
- responds to questions
- fulfills his/her role and contributes to group/partner work most of the time
- participates actively in class most of the time

C
The student
- uses limited vocabulary
- occasionally shows learning of new words, expressions, phrases and structures
- usually responds to questions
- contributes little to group/partner work and fulfills role only inadequately
- participates very little in class

D
The student
- uses very limited vocabulary
- occasionally says something appropriate in German
- often refuses to answer when asked a question
- doesn't fulfill his/her role and doesn't contribute during group/partner work
- hardly ever participates in class
