STUDY QUESTIONS FOR MID-TERM (Chapters 1,2,3,4,5)

CHAPTER ONE:
1.  Can you explain what anthropology is?  Can you name the subfields and explain what each subfield studies?

2. Can you explain why anthropology is considered a science?

3.  Can you discuss the meaning of these terms: ethnography, cross cultural comparison, participant observation

4.  Can you discuss some of the ethical issues confronting Anthropologists in the field today?

CHAPTER TWO:
1.   Do you know the difference between artifacts and fossils?

2.  Can you explain how sites and localities are located?

3.  Do you understand how sites and localities are investigated?

4.  Can you discuss the factors affecting the preservation of artifacts and fossils?

5.  Can you explain the importance of meticulous record keeping in archaeological excavation?

6.  Can you determine which techniques of archaeological dating are most appropriate in a given situation?

2.  Can you explain the limitations of biological classification of humans?

3.  Can you discuss the role the environment plays in determining physical characteristics?

4.  Can you discuss the relationship between enculturation and biology in determining assumed behavioral differences in humans?
