BJE is 100 years old
What was life like for a child 100 years ago
There was no internet!
Most children walked to school.
There were no ipods
There were no computers
People traveled to Australia by ship
There weren’t fast food take-aways
There was no television
You could catch a tram to school
You did your homework by gas light or candle light!
Here is a list of some of the things Academy BJE does for kids like you:
* We teach Scripture to Jewish children in 70 schools in Sydney
* We teach Jewish children to read, write and speak Hebrew
* We prepare Jewish children for their Bar or Bat Mitzva
* We give Judaism classes before or after school, called the "JETS Program"
* If Jewish children live outside Sydney, or, if someone goes to a school where they are the only Jewish children, we send them their Scripture lessons by mail so that they can learn with their parents.
* And we have our own BJE website packed with games, activities and competitions for Jewish children, teens and adults. Its address is www.bje.org.au.
